The Knox County School District offers daily transportation services for
students throughout the school district. Bus drivers pick up children in
the mornings and take them home in the afternoons. Additional runs are
made for preschool students, students with disabilities, and
extracurricular and cocurricular events. All drivers must qualify for the
Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and also have annual physical and random
drug tests. Upon being hired, drivers have motor vehicle and criminal
records checks and a TB skin test. Intense state-mandated training is an
ongoing process for all drivers. A Board of Education adopted
Transportation Manual delineates all aspects of this major operation. The
District's transportation facility is located at Boone Heights, adjacent
to Central Elementary School.
